Critical Limits
Critical limits are separate from ordinary reference ranges and drive the critical result notification workflow.
6 configured limits

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Complete Blood Count | Hemoglobin | 7.0 | 20.0 | Active | |

| Complete Blood Count | Total WBC Count | 2,000 | 30,000 | Active | |
| Serum Creatinine | Serum Creatinine | — | 5.0 | Active | |
| Blood Glucose (Fasting) | Fasting Blood Glucose | 45 | 450 | Active | |
| Urine Culture & Sensitivity | Culture Result | — | — | Active |
How critical results behave
- 1. Result entry marks the value CRITICAL in text and flag, not colour alone.
- 2. Pathologist review shows the critical parameter with the existing Notification Required control.
- 3. The existing lifecycle continues: Notification Required → Pending → Doctor Notified → Acknowledged.
Reference range ≠ critical limit
A Low or High flag reports a value outside the normal range. A critical limit means a clinically dangerous value that requires active communication with the ordering doctor.
